Introducing our new beta feature - Energy tariff integration!

Hi everyone,

We’re excited to introduce our latest update to the equiwatt app, designed to make managing your energy usage even easier and more efficient. Say hello to our energy tariff integration!

What’s new?

As well as being able to view your smart meter’s electricity readings, you can now connect your electricity tariff to the equiwatt app and view your rates directly from your dashboard. This means you can view how much you are paying per kWh, your contract end date, tariff type and name.

Please Note: You’ll need a smart meter sending half-hourly readings connected to equiwatt to use the tariff integration.

Time of Use Tariffs

However, if you are on a time-of-use or agile tariff, you’ll also be able to view your peak, middle, and off-peak rates for each day.

This will help us to determine the charging pattern of your connected devices (e.g. batteries, EV chargers) during events and help make sure you use energy when it is cheaper and greener.

Get Rewarded for Exporting Electricity

For those of you with a compatible AlphaESS battery system and an export MPAN, this integration will also enable you to earn rewards from exporting.

As well as linking your import tariff, you can also link your export tariff and start getting rewarded for sending energy back to the grid during events!

Once both your battery and export tariff are connected to the app, we will be able to set an export forecast for you for each event. By exporting more than your forecast, you will be able to earn rewards for sending electricity back to the grid.

This feature is currently in beta, so expect improvements and new features soon, and please share your feedback!

When trying to connect my tariff I get an error - oh snap, something went wrong.

Hi @Ninko,

Please could you share a screenshot or recording of the error message so that I can share it with my colleagues to investigate?

If possible, please could you also confirm your energy provider, app version and operating system (e.g. which version of iOS or Android) your device is running?

This information will be helpful as my colleagues take a look at what has happened.

All the best,

Mark - Team equiwatt

Energy Provider: British Gas
App Version: 5.0.48 (206051)
OS: Android 15

Thanks

Hi @Ninko,

Thank you for sharing those details.

I have passed them on to my colleagues to investigate further. As soon as I have an update I will let you know.

All the best,

Mark - Team equiwatt

Hi @Ninko,

My colleague has taken a look and our system has detected that your smart meter doesn’t support export.

Please can you confirm whether this is correct or not, so that I can pass this information on to my colleague?

All the best,

Mark - Team equiwatt

Hi,
I haven’t got a clue to be honest, is there a way I can find out? Does this mean I can’t use this new feature?

Thanks

Hi @Ninko,

In order to add an export tariff to your account, you will need to have an export MPAN. This is what enables you to export electricity back to the grid and get rewarded for it.

An export MPAN is not usually given unless you have applied for one via your energy supplier. It would be worth checking with them if you are unsure.

However, please note that the export tariff integration is only really of benefit to users with solar or home batteries that are able to export electricity back to the grid.

Thanks,

Mark - Team equiwatt

Ahhh I see, I think I’ve misunderstood the new feature a little, I don’t have an export meter so that is correct.
Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks

Hi @Ninko,

No problem. Happy to assist.

Thanks,

Mark - Team equiwatt
