The event last Wednesday (which you’ll have opted in to) was a
NESOS demand-flexibility-service (DFS)
event, which was three hours long
Don’t answer why the app is set for an hour max
Hi @Stephen_C,
Thank you for getting in touch with us.
As Rich explained, the event last week was a 3 hour event. This is unusual and is the first 3 hour event that we have run.
As events are typically run for 1 hour, the control for devices, including your plug have traditionally been set to run for the duration of the event. This is also why the app settings show a 1 hour limit on the slider.
However, given NESO ran a 3 hour event this is something we are going to look into for future as we appreciate users should have more flexibility as to how much of an event their devices participate in.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
All the best,

What is the point of time adjustment section for Kasa plugs within the app?
Fridge off for 3 hours is not good, not worth the few pence if food goes off.
Please fix, or I simply will not opt in.
Hi @Stephen_C,
As explained connected devices (including Kasa plugs) are by default set to participate for the full duration of an event. Typically this is only 1 hour, hence the time settings for Kasa plugs having 1 hour as the maximum duration of participation.
To accommodate events longer than 1 hour, we will need to make adjustments to the app, something that I have raised with the team already. Unfortunately, due to the lack of notice from NESO that they would be running such a long event, we were not able to make these changes before the event occurred. I can only apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Please also note that by opting in to an event you agree to enable us to switch off any connected devices that are opted in to participate in events. If you do not wish for a specific device to take part then please make sure to adjust that device’s preferences accordingly.
With regards to the food in your fridge, this is something that we take very seriously. If you have any concerns about anything happening to your food then we would advise that you err on the side of caution and do not participate your fridge in events.
However, it is worth noting that as per the advice from UK Power Networks, food should be safe in a fridge for up to 4 hours as long as the door is not opened frequently whilst they are powered off.
All the best,
